Brentwood Community

Between the famous West Los Angeles cities of Bel Air to the east, and Pacific Palisades to the west, lies the upscale and peaceful community of Brentwood. With many large trees and lush planting, Brentwood takes on the feel of a smaller rural city. It is home to many celebrities and stow business personalities because of its private, quiet feel with close proximity to the studios. Brentwood borders the UCLA campus to the west providing easy access to the Westwood / Century City area. This city offers a diverse selection of restaurants, theaters and activities and is easily accessible by the 405 Fwy. Home prices range from $500,000 to $5 million.

For information about area businesses, visit the Greater West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce.

Brentwood Culture

Brentwood is a prestigious town, located mostly in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains, and is part of the city of Los Angeles. It is an increasingly wealthy community with a highly educated and aging adult population. Brentwood is no longer merely a nice family community within Los Angeles--it has become one of LA's most elite and desirable locales. It is a place where young professionals without families can enjoy a high quality of life on LA's Westside, and a place where families come to raise their children. "Brentwood is a place where people come and stay for a generation. They stay until their kids are raised," one local commented in The Brentwood News. Local schools are rated highly.

Brentwood Education

Locals attending public school are part of the Los Angeles Unified School District. At the elementary level, students attend Kenter Canyon Elementary School, Brockton Elementary School, or possibly Brentwood Science Magenet Elementary. Students then progress to either Ralph Waldo Emerson or Paul Revere Charter Middle School. High schoolers generally attend University High School (near UCLA) or Palisades Charter High School, in nearby Pacific Palisades.

Private school offerings are also available in Brentwood including Brentwood School, St. Martin of Tours, and The Archer School for Girls.

Students seeking higher education will find Mount St. Mary's College and University of California Los Angeles.

Brentwood Housing

Today, Brentwood is built primarily for upscale professionals. It has its mansions, and its homes that hang off the hills or sit on mesas and command great views of the countryside and the Pacific. The typical home, however, is probably a three- or four-bedroom rancher, with a two-car garage, built in the 1950's or 1960's. Brentwood has a country feeling, with streets meandering around and over the hills and plentiful trees and shrubs. There is little land left for development in Brentwood, causing land to hold its value better than if there were expansive areas where new homes could be built.

Brentwood Lifestyle

The average Brentwood resident earns an income of nearly $120,000 a year, and is more likely to own his or her 5.4-room residence than to rent it. The value of that residence is in excess of $500,000 and the monthly owner costs with a mortgage are more than $2,000. The average resident spends 24 minutes driving alone to work each day.
